“You need to establish if the girls are willing to be vulnerable and pliable.”
A Farmer Wants a Wife Australia production insider has spilled juicy behind-the-scenes secrets about the show’s casting process and some goss about the dramatic 2024 season.
Known as one of the most successful dating shows in Australia, FWAW is famous for producing beautiful love stories, unlike some of the showmances that come out of Married at First Sight.
One producer spilled the details to Yahoo! Lifestyle on how they find the perfect singles to make the show as successful as it is.
Farmer Wants a Wife insider spills tip for people who want to progress through the audition process
When it comes to the audition process, all successful candidates must undergo group auditions in their capital city.
“At this stage, the girls sign their first NDA,” the production insider dished. “There’s very little you can tell your friends and family until the shoot is over. We often hear girls inform their family they are going on a holiday to Bali.
“At this point, all women will meet with the executive producer and psychologist and have their police/medical checks. This process is usually completed a month before filming.”
The source then spilled one tip for people who are interested in progressing through the audition process.
“We don’t want everyone going for the Farmer Bert type, even though you will often get more applications for one farmer over another,” they said. Interesting!
The ‘characters’ Farmer Wants a Wife producers search for
Whilst FWAW is one of the most wholesome shows out there, turns out producers are still looking for people who bring a lil’ spice to the screen.
To do this, they look for women who are unspoken, emotional, or confrontational. This information can also help producers determine how long each lady will last on the show.
“We usually know who the farmers will pick before the show starts filming,” the insider explained. “We can be surprised. But the girls are cast to fill a character role, and that helps us shoot the show.”

They added: “The most important thing to establish in a group audition is how audible each of the girls is and if they will follow simple producer instructions.
“It’s not as sinister as it sounds but you do need to establish if the girls are willing to be vulnerable and can be pliable.”
Is Farmer Wants a Wife scripted?
Like many reality shows, Farmer Wants a Wife, producers intervene when they have to.
“When the one-on-one dates are happening, and the contestants are naturally talking, producers tell them their conversations aren’t interesting enough [and] producers will tell them exactly what to say,” the insider explained.

Often, producers can be heard saying, “This is not good content” when the conversations get stale. LOL!
The 2024 season will feature ‘MORE tears and tantrums’ than a ‘Married at First Sight dinner party’
The production insider then spilled the beans on the 2024 season.
They revealed that there would be TWO farmer walkouts and “more tears and tantrums from the women than any MAFS dinner party”. LOL!
“What’s usually the MAFS antidote is going to be a [Bachelor and Spinster Ball] from hell in the best way possible,” the source laughed. Bring it on!
