Guy Sebastian sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry last month when he announced his sudden departure as coach on The Voice Australia.
And on Wednesday, the singer, 43, opened up about his decision to quit the popular Channel Seven reality show.
Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, Guy explained: ‘I think I’ve been too comfortable … I’ve done it because it is comfortable.’
‘It is great for my family life and keeping me at home. I’m always busy and I’ve always got something in the calendar that is just sort of stopping me from jumping in with both feet and I think it boils down to this desire to be uncomfortable again.’
While the show plays out on screens for several weeks, production on The Voice goes for six months of the year.
Sebastian revealed he wants to shift his focus to touring Australia.
‘I want to pour myself into it but I can only ever really pour myself into my music and touring and my art these days in spurts, and it is a juggle of fatherhood, being a husband, being a musician, being on TV,’ Sebastian explained.
Guy announced the news to his Instagram account on October 30.

‘I have some news to share with you all regarding my role as a Voice coach,’ he began.
‘I have made the decision to take a break from the best red chair on the planet.
‘It’s been six amazing years as a coach & it’s honestly been the best gig ever! I have nothing but good things to say about the show itself, & sharing the panel with such amazing coaches has been a pleasure.’
‘It is great for my family life and keeping me at home,’ he continued. ‘I’m always busy and I’ve always got something in the calendar that is just sort of stopping me from jumping in with both feet and I think it boils down to this desire to be uncomfortable again’
He then went on to reflect on his time on the show.
‘The best thing about the show is how positive it is & how much care and passion goes into making it a safe place for artists,’ he continued.
‘For me right now, it’s time to focus more on my core, which is writing and performing new music.
‘I am busy planning shows in Australia & worldwide & I am really looking forward to getting out and connecting with you all there.’
The Angels Brought Me Here singer concluded with chatter about his upcoming album, which he’s poured his heart and soul into over the last four years, before ending with a warning.
‘Whoever has the audacity to take my chair, don’t get too comfortable… I will wrestle for it back with zero dignity when I’m ready to return,’ he wrote.
Channel Seven was quick to offer their well wishes.
