It comes after Mel Tracina was revealed as the new host.
The real reason Sonia Kruger isn’t hosting Big Brother Australia 2025 has been revealed.
During the September 16 Upfronts, it was announced that Big Brother would return to its OG network, Channel 10, after airing on Seven for the past four years. It was also revealed that Mel Tracina would take over as the host.
Insiders told Yahoo Lifestyle that long-time host Sonia and OG host Gretel Killeen were “never considered” for the 2025 series.

“Network 10 wanted someone fresh that felt similar to the network hiring Gretel back in 2001,” the source dished. “Gretel wasn’t unknown by any means, but it was Big Brother Australia that made her a household name.”
The insider added that newcomer Mel is set to bring “something unique” to the show’s format.
“Her sense of humour, support of women, and not being afraid to take men to task will echo what Gretel did with the format,” they added.
Former host Sonia Kruger ‘wasn’t keen’ for Big Brother reboot
The source added that Sonia wasn’t “that keen” on hosting Big Brother with another network.
“Longtime fans were ready for a change. In some ways, Sonia’s era never really saw her challenging the housemates on their bad behaviour the way Gretel did,” they explained.
“Sonia wasn’t really that keen on continuing, and Gretel would have wanted a huge paycheque to be back on the show.”
Another source claimed that neither Sonia nor Gretel knew the show, which was cancelled in 2024, was being rebooted. However, they were “happy with the news.”
It comes after Sonia was rumoured to host The Golden Bachelor.
