The Victorian couple slammed as “ungrateful” over their response to winning a property from The Block 2022 have hit out at backlash.

Kevin and Andrea Griffin won the home renovated by 2022 contestants Sharon Johal and Ankur Dogra after Adrian Portelli, who purchased the property in November 2022, announced that he’d raffle it off as a prize through his business LMCT+.

However, the Victorian couple were called out for being “ungrateful” after a video circulated of them looking unimpressed with the Gisborne home.

“We are anything but ungrateful and we’ve said that all along,” Andrea told Daily Mail Australia. “We even pull up at the gate now and look up and go, ‘Wow, that’s our house’. Like, we own that house.

“We are just so thankful that the dice rolled our way.”

She also said that she and Kevin feel that they’ve been negatively portrayed by Adrian and his staff in the video he released.

They alleged that Adrian asked them to make note of anything that needed attention in the home and that would pass on the builder’s contact details.

“He told me I’d have to go through and pick everything that is wrong with the house,” Andrea explained. “So, ‘What, I’ve gotta go through and pick sh*t out of it?’ And that’s the comment he’s used to make me to look like some ungrateful person.”

Andrea also said Adrian joked that he was concerned about not being able to pass off the home to someone else.

“Leading up to all that [Adrian] was joking about the house and he said to us, ‘I’m glad you took the house because I thought I was going to be stuck with the thing’,” she recalled.

The couple, who moved from Ballarat to occupy the Gisborne home, claimed the workmanship of the property was lacklustre.

“Kevin is a plasterer and straight away you look at the ceiling and it’s all rippled right through the whole ceiling,” Andrea said.

This comes after the Herald Sun revealed CCTV footage showing Adrian and a group of men seemingly removing several items from the house, which the winning couple claimed were worth around $100,000.

However, Adrian stated that these items were never included in the terms and conditions of the giveaway.
