Kylie Baker initially hoped The Block would open doors for a media career but has since told friends she has been shattered by her five minutes of fame. Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle, an insider says, “Kylie was talking about media opportunities with former Blockheads which may come after the show but now has a very different plan after seeing her time on the show.”

Kylie wanted to know what her media schedule would look like and even suggested doing appearances throughout the broadcast. However, when things went belly up during week eleven’s ‘flirting scandal’, Kylie went to ground and refused any media appearances.

Kylie’s post-Block TV dream ‘squashed’

“There was this feeling that Channel Nine was stopping Kylie and Brad from doing media interviews but it wasn’t the case,” the source reveals. “Kylie was turning down everything with no interest in answering anyone’s questions.”

“What she thought would be her time to put out her feelers and find a potential jobs in radio and TV became the mother of four’s time to hide.”

They add, “The idea of being a TV presenter or pivoting in her career was squashed and it did very much became about just surviving the show going to air. Being in the public eye is brutal and far less glamorous or appealing to the couple now that they know how much your privacy is invaded.”

Kylie has told friends that she takes her hat off to mothers with media careers, after having so much interest in her personal life, it’s unfathomable to ever want to put herself or her family in this situation again.

“A lot of people who go on reality TV think they could be the next Abbie Chatfield or Chrissie Swan but the truth is that the odds are already against you – even if you do get a good edit,” our source says.

While she had initially dreamed of working on shows like Getaway or Postcards, she has thrown all those ideas out the window and now wants to move as far from TV as possible.

Brad and Kylie have been putting on a brave face this week as Channel Nine revs up for the auction, which are filming on Saturday and airing on Sunday night. They were at the Melbourne Cup as special guests of the network, but that was their first public appearance this season. They have been absent for all the usual Block publicity events and that has been unusual to see.

“Kylie is really hoping for the whole experience to be over and very soon her Block journey will all seem like a dream,” the insider adds.

It comes after a former contestant spoke to Yahoo Lifestyle ahead of the auctions, saying, “The writing is on the wall for some contestants this year. Kylie and Brad should be preparing to make no money, and they should be telling their friends and family to stay at home in Cairns. Better yet – don’t even watch the show on Sunday night.”
