My Kitchen Rules fans have called out a strange detail in Monday night’s episode of the reality show which saw Janey and Maddie fighting for a coveted spot in the top four. The Kitchen Queens hosted the final Ultimate Instant Restaurant of the season and promised to serve a sophisticated menu that would secure their place in the competition.

While fans watched in anticipation to see if the mother-and-daughter duo would score higher than brothers Rob and Liam, many people spotted a “ridiculous” moment when they were cooking in the kitchen that suggested the episode was “staged”. Viewers were left baffled when they saw Janey take a hot tray out of the oven with her bare hands and subsequently vowed not to watch the rest of the season.

“A few slip-ups in editing (eg taking tray out of oven with bare hands etc) unfortunately reinforces the opinion that it is all staged, cooking is not actually done by these contestants,” one person wrote on Facebook. “Switched off and went to bed. Enough for me. I’m done with viewing.”

“My biggest filming peeve on the show. Opening the ‘hot’ oven and grabbing a tray/tin with bare hands. This page makes me feel less OCD,” another added.

“I believe this episode was very staged,” someone else replied, while a fourth said, “I agree, Manu and Colin should be so embarrassed to host this show, it’s gotten pathetic”.

“Definitely not as good as it was originally. So scripted. MasterChef is a pleasure to watch. You actually see the contestants cooking and no bitching,” a different user remarked.

The oven debacle wasn’t the only incident that outraged viewers throughout the episode, with plenty of people annoyed by the Victorian team’s lack of hygiene when preparing their dessert.

“Let’s not forget the turning of the pineapple, then she licks her fingers,” a fan pointed out.

“I saw Janey lick her fingers and then touch the food,” someone else commented, followed by another who shared, “Their hygiene is disgusting. Licking fingers and handling the food all the time”.

Others took issue with what Janey and Maddie presented on their plate, with one fan writing: “The tomato relish was made from a can of tomatoes.”

“I saw that too and nearly screamed at the TV,” a different user responded, while another questioned, “If you are going to be basic and use ready-made, why be on a cooking show?”.

Despite their questionable moments, Janey and Maddie managed to impress the judges and their co-stars with their menu and secured their spot in the final four.

They received 63 points, putting them in equal second place with Mike and Pete and below Simone and Viviana who scored 68 points at their Ultimate Instant Restaurant.

This meant that Rob and Liam, who began the competition as front runners, found themselves at the bottom of the leaderboard with 57 points and were eliminated.

“We’ve proven through this competition we’re great cooks. We had one really bad day,” Liam said following his elimination. “We left the door wide open for everyone to beat us. It’s been a great experience doing it with my brother. Love you, bro.”

The final four teams are set to return to Kitchen HQ in Tuesday night’s episode and compete for a “massive semi-final advantage”.
