“The cat’s out the bag now…”
SAS Australia has been tipped to return to our screens in 2025, and a familiar face has been rumoured to join the Directing Staff.
Despite Seven announcing a new season of the special forces show during the 2023 Upfronts, it was revealed that the 2024 season was canned, with host Ant Middleton taking on Dancing with the Stars instead.
However, on October 18, the Sunday Herald Sun revealed that the hit show is set to return in 2025. Yay!

Ant also confirmed that comedian Merrick Watts, who passed the final selection in 2020, would return to the series in a very exciting role.
“Merrick is coming on as one of the Directing Staff. He’s going to be by my side on the next SAS,” Ant gushed.
“I guess the cat’s out of the bag now. We must keep evolving [the show], keep it fresh.”
Merrick Watts DENIES rumours he’s joining SAS Australia 2025‘s Directing Staff team
However, during an appearance on Fifi, Fev & Nick on October 22, Merrick denied rumours he’d be joining SAS Australia 2025.
“They just went and wrote it. I read it, and I was like, ‘That’s interesting, I didn’t know that. So that’s news to me.”

Host Fifi Box then asked whether Seven had spoken to him at all about joining the Directing Staff team.
“No,” he responded. “Not only have I not been spoken to about it, no one has been spoken to about it. It’s never come up.” How bizarre!
He then claimed he “didn’t know” how the rumour “came about” in the first place.
“I barely made it through as a recruit, I don’t think I’m in a position now to become a teacher about it,” he added. “It’s unfounded, untrue. I won’t be returning to SAS Australia.”
That settles it, then!
