“Is it a conspiracy?”

Fans are calling out The Block for its historic lack of including female tradie contestants, and we have to admit, they’ve got a point.

ICYMI: The Block‘s landmark 20th season is just around the corner, and with it comes an all-new cast of Blockheads hoping to win over the judges and some big bucks on auction day.

In June, Nine revealed the names and occupations of the cast, and some fans aren’t too thrilled with the lack of ‘lady tradie’ representation on the show.

Taking to Reddit in July, one user questioned the lack of female tradespeople competing on The Block.

“Australia is a BIG country, and I see women builders, electricians, tilers, etc, on other Aussie building/renovation shows,” they expressed. “Also, in the work teams that come to work on The Block houses, there are no women.

“Why have I so far seen only one couple with an actual woman tradie as a contestant? Are there really no married/sibling/friend couples applying where a woman has actual professional building experience?”

The Redditor added: “Is it a conspiracy? Do the builder women always team up with people who have even more terrible design sense than what we usually see? Do ALL women tradies have absolutely unusable personalities for reality shows? So many questions…”

Fans weigh in on the lack of female tradie contestants on The Block

In the Reddit threat, The Block fans weighed in on why they think female tradies are sparse.

One user suggested, “Statistically, there are a lot fewer women tradies, so the odds of them applying are lower.”

Another said genuine female tradies are “sensible”, so they wouldn’t make good TV amid The Block‘s intense challenges and drama.

“Female tradies are probably sensible, level-headed people,” they wrote. “Those sorts don’t belong on The Block. [Producers] have their types they choose for TV. I dare say most with realistic experience hardly get a chance.”

In 2022, Jenny Heath became The Block‘s first-ever female contestant who worked as a tradie in her usual life.

She appeared on the show with her now-husband, Dylan Adams.
