The Block’s Maddy and Charlotte have been applauded on social media for how they treated their co-star Kylie upon her return to the show in Wednesday night’s episode. Kylie flew home to Queensland earlier this week after discovering her husband Brad had been ‘flirting’ with fellow cast member Mimi but decided to come back for the final two weeks of the competition.

While Mimi chose to keep her distance from Kylie during a group gathering when she returned, Maddy and Charlotte were the first team to greet her and make her feel welcome. The sisters, who Kylie had ostracised for the majority of the season, complimented her appearance and said her hair looked “beautiful”.

“We went up to [Kylie] and made a little effort just to make her feel comfortable because we knew that she probably wouldn’t feel super comfortable in a group setting coming back,” Maddy explained in her piece-to-camera interview, while Charlotte added, “It seemed like there was still a little bit of tension in the air between people, and she seemed a little bit on her own so we bee-lined for her”.

They added that they live by the motto of treating others how they would want to be treated and didn’t want to end their experience on The Block with any “bitterness”.

“I think regardless of how someone treats me, I want to live a life where I just show people kindness,” Maddy shared. “That’s far more important to us than pointing the finger and being like, ‘Well this is how you treated me!’. I don’t want to live like that.”

“Especially in a time when [Kylie]’s clearly not okay, I feel like that’s more of a reason for us to be even kinder to her and put aside the past,” Charlotte remarked.

Kylie acknowledged in her own piece-to-camera interview that it was very kind of Maddy and Charlotte to be the first people to say hello to her, despite their tumultuous history.

“The first people that did come and say hi to me was Maddy and Charlotte,” Kylie said in her piece-to-camera interview. “It was very nice.

“I guess, you know, it’s nice to know that as much as I didn’t feel there was a support network that there actually is.”

Meanwhile, Mimi told producers she didn’t feel comfortable approaching Kylie because it was “still pretty fresh” and she felt “a bit anxious”.

“I felt a little bit uncomfortable because I just can’t read it. If I were to go up and say, ‘Hey, are we good?’ And she said ‘no’, I don’t take that well. I’d probably crumble and it would really upset me,” she shared. “Avoiding also isn’t helpful, but I think it’s just finding the right time. I think that wasn’t the right time, it was still too fresh. She literally just got back.”

Viewers took to social media throughout the episode to praise Maddy and Charlotte’s kind act, with one person describing them as “the literal best humans on this earth”

“I just found Maddy and Charlotte showed maturity beyond their years with how they ‘welcomed’ Kylie back in the tennis court segment, despite their history with her,” a fan shared.

“How bloody nice are Maddy and Charlotte!” a third said, while another added, “Charlotte and Maddy have just shown everyone how to be kind and respectful no matter the situation”.

“From day one they have showed more maturity than all of the other contestants. They should be super proud of themselves,” a different user replied, followed by someone else who commented, “Quick shout out to Maddy and Charlotte! Youngest yet most level-headed and mature. Principled and honest, parents should be proud”.

“If it wasn’t for the girls, I would feel so gas-lit by how disconnected from reality all the other contestants are and would only watch reveal episodes. The girls are the only anchor to reality, to normalcy, to decency,” another viewer remarked.
