The Producers Have A Hand In When Coaches Turn Around For The Singers (Plus What Is In Their Little Red Books!)

The red notebooks The Voice coaches don throughout the blind auditions haven’t gone unnoticed, with many viewers questioning what is written in them.

In an interview with Yahoo! Lifestyle, Guy Sebastian revealed that each coach’s notebook holds information about the performers and the songs they wow with during their blind auditions.

“It’ll sort of just say like, what state they’re from,” he confessed. “There’s no names, no gender or anything like that. We never get told anything about who they are, we don’t get told the song.”

They do, however, get some insight into whether the singers are performing an original tune they’ve written themselves or a lesser-known existing song, Guy added: “If it’s a really random song… something that not everyone knows, we get told that so that we don’t think it’s an original.”

He also disclosed that the producers “go into it with a fair bit of thought”, and will also leave notes for him and the other coaches — Jessica MauboyRita Ora and Keith Urban — including direction on which coach talks when, and, due to the new implementation of unlimited chair turns, reminders that they need to turn for singers.

Guy Sebastian Was Forced to Clarify Whether The Voice Is Rigged

Following his aforementioned comments, Guy was forced to clarify these tidbits after Tone Deaf posted his claims under “clickbait false headlines”.

“We are only given reminders of the different format changes, for example this year there are unlimited chair turns instead of 12 spots which means if we are on the fence we don’t need to be selective,” Guy wrote on Facebook underneath the publication’s post, whose headline read “The Voice judge Guy Sebastian reveals producers tell them when to turn”.

“Obviously it’s way better to give the artist a choice and to battle it out with another coach than to default to only one coach who turns.

“I have never once been told who to turn my chair for.”
