The man with the plans!

Nine Network

When Scott Cam revealed to this year’s Block 2021 contestants that there were no pre-drawn plans for their properties, chaos ensued, and the assistance of resident architect Julian Brenchley became a necessity for the teams to execute the most beneficial floor plans for their homes.

While returning ‘Favourites’ team Ronnie and Georgia used Julian’s expertise to their advantage, fresh-faced twins Josh and Luke found themselves in a stalemate with the architect when they refused to change their floor plan to something more practical.

Something tells us these “belligerent 13-year-olds” (Julian’s words, not ours!), should have listened to the advice, because Julian has years of experience in the field, which can’t be said for the brothers whose claim to fame was on Love Island 2019.

Internationally-acclaimed, Julian is the founder and Principal Architect of Brenchley Architects and has designed every residential project on The Block since the series’ conception in 2003, which saw Blockheads compete in Bondi — so if Josh and Luke are looking for an upper hand, we’d suggest listening to the guy who’s designed over 70 properties for the renovation show.

The multi-talented architect studied his craft at the University of Technology (UTS), as well as philosophy at Sydney University. He has since been both a lecturer and tutor at UTS in Design Theory, as well as undertaking his own undergraduate research projects in design philosophy.

Despite having to come up with their own plans, host Scotty has granted the teams access to Julian, who has been shepherding the ‘Fans VS Favourites’ teams in the right direction.

As Australia’s longest running reality TV show, The Block’s 17th season is under construction in Bronte Court, of the inner-Melbourne suburb of Hampton.
