Which Voice Australia coach will come back after Guy Sebastian’s announcement he won’t be back next season?
Following Guy Sebastian’s shock exit from The Voice Australia, one former coach is reportedly interested in returning to the show for another season. Kate Miller-Heidke, who was on the show this year, is apparently keen to return now that Guy has announced he won’t be back next year.
“Kate Miller-Heidke had no interest in returning to The Voice Australia until she heard Guy Sebastian had quit!” a source tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “She is looking at returning with fresh eyes and Guy being gone has been the turning point.”
“There was clearly a disconnect with the two coaches during the filming of the 13th series,” they add.
‘Kate and Guy were at odds from day two of filming’
Another source confirms, “Kate and Guy were at odds from day two of filming.”
“[Kate] thought she had this gig sorted and believed Guy would be a strong ally, but he was pretty dismissive of her from the start. Which caught her off guard.”
The insider adds that the “tension was pretty awkward between them” and “many fans picked up on their rivalry”.
“The final edit really toned down the drama and Australia honestly didn’t see how tense it got,” a producer tells us. “The Voice Australia doesn’t really want conflict. There can be fun banter but it’s hard to edit around two coaches who clearly are not getting along.”

“No one was more shocked than Kate that Guy wasn’t there to support her first season, and from then on, it just escalated,” they add.
Kate had told Channel Seven that she “wouldn’t be back next season and everyone knew that. However, when Guy made his announcement that he was out. Kate has been rethinking not returning.”
“I think Kate would like to give it another go and Guy leaving has had the singer going back over the experience and looking at what she would like to do differently – if she does return.”
The insider adds that a return wasn’t “even on her radar” before Guy’s announcement.
Channel Seven were looking at Jessica Mauboy to replace Kate, but when they found out Jess was pregnant, it threw a “spanner in the works”.
Channel Seven is set to make an announcement in a few weeks, and there’s still time for Kate to stay in the game.
The “wish list” is widely believed to be Ronan Keating, alongside Keith Urban and LeAnn Rimes. Those contracts are being negotiated at the moment.
