Before Pingalore, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst suggested that Redick is a leading candidate for Lakers’ head coach role. During an episode of the Hoop Collective, Windhorst discussed the possibility of Redick taking on the role. He shared the mixed signals he has received but claimed Redick’s strong candidacy.
“There is information out there otherwise involving JJ Redick. I will tell you my information is scattered. I have some people saying this is JJ Redick’s job that I trust. I have some people saying this is a process that is not complete. I suspect I know something, but I am just going to tell you it is multiple streams of information. James Borrego has had multiple meetings with the Lakers. I think he’s a viable candidate for sure, but I think JJ Redick is a very strong candidate,” Windhorst said.
The athletic reporter Shams Charania also sees Redick as a strong contender for the Laker’s next head coach. The Lakers’ history of making bold moves with high-profile names also supports the potential appointment of Redick.
Despite having no coaching experience, Redick’s basketball IQ and reputation as a sharp analyst have made him an appealing candidate. The Lakers reportedly interviewed him alongside other potential candidates like James Borrego and Sam Cassell last week.
A Sneak Peek to JJ Redick’s Impactful NBA Career
JJ Redick began his NBA career after being drafted 11th overall by the Orlando Magic. Over his illustrious 15-year career, Redick played for six different franchises. Last season, he played for the New Orleans Pelicans and the Dallas Mavericks.

Throughout his career, he averaged 12.8 points per game and made an impressive 2.1 three-pointers per game. With shooting splits of .447/.415/.892, he established himself as one of the league’s premier perimeter threats.
Although Redick made it to the NBA Finals with the Orlando Magic during the 2008–09 season, he never hoisted the coveted championship trophy. On September 21, 2021, Redick announced his retirement from professional basketball.
Presently, Redick is part of ESPN’s NBA broadcast team. Should the speculation surrounding his appointment as the Lakers’ coach prove accurate, his commitments to the network will extend until the conclusion of the NBA Finals.
