The 2024 NBA Draft is knocking at the door, and on the final day of the withdrawal date, talents are retracting their names from the event. Coleman Hawkins from Illinois was one of the prospects to withdraw his name from the NBA Draft and Michael Ajayi, formerly of Pepperdine is also following suit.
On Wednesday, Ajayi removed himself from the 2024 NBA Draft and is heading back to college basketball with Gonzaga to utilize his final eligible year.
While this disappoints some NBA fans, Gonzaga fans will rejoice to see their new man in action. Ajayi averaged 17.2 points and 9.9 rebounds per game for Pepperdine last season, and his highly anticipated debut will come around November of this year.
Notably, Ajayi was not the only player to withdraw from the NBA Draft; prospects from other colleges also decided to postpone their highly ambitious move to the big league.
More Talents Withdraw From 2024 NBA Draft
As the deadline for withdrawal from the NBA Draft came to its final hours, Alex Karaban became another addition to the withdrawal list. The UConn forward will return for his last year in college and aim for a third successive NCAA championship with the Huskies.
Karaban averaged 13.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists last season with UConn with 49.5% field goal.
Apart from the 6’8″ forward, Clemson Tigers’ Chase Hunter has also withdrawn from the NBA Draft. The 6’4″ guard had an impressive run to the final eight of the NCAA tournament last season with the Tigers but was not invited to the Draft Combine. Hunter averaged 12.9 points, 3.2 assists, and 2.6 rebounds for the Clemson side and is returning there to increase his Draft stocks.
So far, the NBA Draft news has been dominated by Bronny James and the projected number 1 pick, Alex Sarr. But with the recent withdrawals, the already underwhelming group, according to specialists, is looking further into obsolescence.
