Los Angeles Lakers, JJ Redick

In a recent episode of the show ‘Get Up’ on ESPN, Brian Windhorst, an NBA insider for ESPN, discussed a report by NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic, suggesting that JJ Redick is the frontrunner for the next head coach position with the Los Angeles Lakers. Windhorst clarified that the decision has not been finalized yet, and the Lakers are considering multiple candidates. He mentioned that there

is a specific process that all candidates will have to go through.

The people that I talk to still are telling me that there is a process to go through here, this is not a done deal. They still have multiple candidates.” Windhorst said.

Charania Claimed Lakers Are Zeroing In On JJ Redick

After being eliminated from the first-round playoffs series against the Denver Nuggets, the Lakers have dismissed head coach Darvin Ham.

A few hours earlier, Charania posted an update on his account on X (formerly known as Twitter): “The Los Angeles Lakers are zeroing in on JJ Redick as the front-runner to be the franchise’s next head coach, league, and media industry.”

He also mentioned that the Lakers are in contact with former Charlotte Hornets head coach James Borrego. His chances of selection will depend on his relationship with the power forward, Anthony Davis.

According to The Athletic’s NBA insider, the Lakers seek someone who can manage the locker room, hold players accountable, diligently work on game plans, and instill discipline and order.

Redick’s close relationship with top player LeBron James improves his selection chances. James and Redick have a good rapport as they co-host Redick’s podcast, “Mind the Game.”

After Windhorst’s remark, fans were confused about the rumors. However, Charania also mentioned that the Lakers will make an official announcement after Reddick’s commentary duty during the NBA Finals.
